ijustwonthegame: (what is my life)

▷ First Impressions
▶ VISUAL: For image reference, please see his canon art.

Neku is a scrawny kid, skinny as a rail and standing at about 5'5". He tends to dress comfortably, opting to go for looks that he finds cool rather than paying much attention to fashion trends (even if he's more aware of them these days). His hair is bright orange and meticulously styled into spikes so long as he has time and hair product to do so - and since the setting of the game is Shibuya, land of crazy fashion and self-expression, the headcanon interpretation here is that his hair color is a dye job and black is his natural color. His eyes are a deep, dark blue. While he is always wearing his headphones in canon (before symbolically removing them at the end), in The Far Shore he won't have them, and without his memories won't even really need them as a security blanket. Assume bare-eared unless mentioned otherwise! As a shinki, the kanji for his name is 音 (the same "ne" in his name, vessel name Onki) and is located on his left shoulder blade.

His form as a vessel is a smartphone. Much like an iPhone. I guess with his canon nickname he's now going to be known as "iPhones"?

▶ AURAL: Jesse David Corti provides Neku's English voice, and Koki Uchiyama provides his Japanese voice. As both actors show, Neku's way of speaking is somewhat odd in that his tonal quality is generally exceptionally soft, but his diction is expressive, up front, and emotive. He is not always quick to say what he thinks, but he always means what he says. He's not afraid to raise his voice when riled, either, but tends to stutter and false-start when shocked or panicked. Though he may seem soft-spoken and quiet upon first meeting - or sharp and curt, depending on the situation - once he relaxes and is comfortable around someone they'll come to realize that he's got quite the personality and expresses it in kind.

▶ OLFACTORY: No particular headcanon here. He tries to be tidy despite being a teenage boy that's still in the all-elbows-and-knees part of puberty, at least?

[Note: please excuse the player's congenital anosmia. I'm driving pretty much blind in this category.]

▶ DEMEANOUR: Much like his manner of speaking, Neku is paradoxical in much of his body language. He hunches his shoulders much of the time, which combined with his favorite shirt's high collar gives the impression of him hiding or withdrawing, and generally keeps his arms tucked relatively close to his body unless gesturing for effect. Despite this tendency to look very conscious of keeping his personal space, though, he stands up straight and keeps steady eye contact with whomever he's speaking to unless he finds himself lost in thought, which overall accurately gives him away as a highly reflective individual that isn't socially anxious so much as acutely aware of the divide between his thoughts and the outside world.

This may be one of his issues.

He may be working on it.
▷ IC Permissions
▶ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Despite his clumsy way of socializing, Neku is actually pretty okay with physical affection as a whole as long as it doesn't ping his Stranger Danger alarm. He'll probably be cripplingly embarrassed, but that just makes it funny. Go for it!

▶ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Neku is scrawny and... to be honest, kind of a wuss if he knows he doesn't have a chance in defending himself. Feel free to pick a fight with him, though, but be careful if there are certain creepy stalker gods hanging around and keeping an eye on his behind. In those situations, there will probably be repercussions.

▶ RELATIONSHIPS: I play Neku as basically pansexual, though he's probably only familiar with the term "bi" and would refer to himself as such if the subject came up and he took the time to think about it. (Even I'm fuzzy on the distinction. If he likes you he'd probably bang you, basically. What's between your ears is more important to him than what's between your legs.)

That said, he's still just a teenager - with a good chunk of trauma and antisocial habits in his past besides - so he's still in a fairly asexual phase in his life and is usually too busy focusing on other stuff to care about relationships. This also means he's free game, and when he does get attached to people it's wholly possible that he'll develop crushes like they're going out of style. And be horrendously awkward and painfully aware of it, most likely. Oops?

▶ PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: Neku is a ridiculously powerful psychic - when he's dead in the afterlife and back in his home canon. While in The Far Shore's version of Japan, that point is moot unless the person he's speaking to can pick up on that kind of potential. Regarding telepaths specifically, Neku thinks. A lot. Often loudly. Since mind reading is a thing in his canon and he shoves a whole lot of information into his thoughts, feel free to pick anything out of his tags unless specified otherwise.

▶ MAGICAL INFORMATION: Neku has no magical abilities to speak of to start with, being a shinki, aside from the psychic-related ones above. As a vessel he acts as an amplifier for Joshua's various psychic abilities.

▶ MEDICAL INFORMATION: Completely normal teenager here with no medical issues to speak of save for the bullet holes that someone already managed to fix.

▶ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: Mostly this section doesn't really matter until/unless memory regains are a thing, but in that event!

Everything Joshua says ever. Joshua's face. Joshua's ideas. Joshua's everything.

Neku has some hangups about death, seeing as how he's recently been put through hell after being shot (twice!) in the head and watching people around him drop one after another like flies in rather traumatizing ways.

Undoing it doesn't fix the trauma entirely, no matter what some people might think.

It is also implied canon that Neku's extremely antisocial adolescence was at least in part due to losing his closest friend in an accident some undefined amount of time before the game's events, adding to these issues regarding death and loss. People treating these subjects lightly will get a harsh argument in turn.

▷ Easy Yes & No
▶ HUGGING: Yes!

▶ KISSING: Yes!

▶ FLIRTING: Yes!

▶ FIGHTING: Yes!

▶ INJURING: Yes, but in cases of permanent injury or drawing blood beyond a bloody nose or split lip, please contact me first!

▶ KILLING: Yes, though plotting beforehand is necessary! Please contact me for this.

▶ MIND READING: Yes! Encouraged, in fact, because otherwise all of my interiority is for nothing and Neku has tons of it.

▷ OOC Permissions
▶ BACKTAGGING: Until the year 2000.

▶ THREADHOPPING: My limit is 1000 a post. For in-person logs, please either give both players a heads-up or use your logical discretion - are the characters in a public place? Have they made any efforts to make sure no one comes upon them? I'm often up for shenanigans but communication is the basis of all fun RP!

▶ FOURTHWALLING: Preferably not, but if you have an idea for an EXCELLENT TAG, just let me know via contact! I’m weak where split-second moments of crack are involved.

▶ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: When talking OOC, I do have a death anxiety problem as well as OCD/GAD/PD/MDD (lots of letters I know), but if we’re talking specifically about things happening in game I am, to my knowledge, fairly unrufflable and try to be very approachable. If you are ever not sure if I'll be okay with something, just ask! I will not judge you!

▶ ANYTHING ELSE? Again just want to stress that I am never bothered by someone coming to talk to me about anything, even if I take a bit to respond! I work an 8-5 day job with very spotty plurk access, so if there's ever a long dead silence please don't fret and think you did something wrong. I promise I'll respond as soon as I'm available!
